WHAT IS YOUR ELECTORAL COLLEGE I.Q.?

QUESTION NINE - ANSWER DETAILS

3. Delaware

This now could be called a trick question. Before the 2000 election, Delaware had voted for the winning candidate in every election since 1948, and this question was worded "Which state has chosen the winning candidate in every election since 1948?"  In the year 2000, Delaware voted for Al Gore. Al Gore did win the popular vote, so Delaware still enjoys the distinction of choosing the candidate with the highest popular vote in every election since 1948.  But since George W. Bush ended up winning the 2000 election, Delaware can no longer boast selecting the winning candidate in every election since 1948.

Ohio has chosen the winning candidate in every election since 1960, and Richard Nixon barely took the state over eventual victor John F. Kennedy. Maine chose Nixon in 1960, Humphrey in 1968, Ford in 1976 and Gore in 2000 (meaning the state chose the losing candidate in the four closest elections since 1948), and also voted 30% for Perot in 1992 and 31% in 1996. Michigan chose Humphrey in 1968, Ford in 1976 and Gore in 2000. Iowa chose Nixon in 1960, Ford in 1976, Michael Dukakis in 1988 and Gore in 2000.
